Dhyana Yoga (The Yoga of Meditation)
The Yoga of Meditation & Mind Mastery
uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet ātmaiva hy ātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ
(Hindi Translation)
English Translation
One must elevate oneself by one's own mind, not degrade oneself. The mind is indeed the greatest friend of the conditioned soul, and the mind can also be its greatest enemy.
Understanding the Deeper Wisdom of Verse 6.5
In Dhyana Yoga, self-mastery begins in the neural circuitry of the mind. A disciplined mind guided by Buddhi (higher intellect) becomes an unwavering ally; an untrained mind governed by impulsive sensory cravings leads to destruction.
Practical Life Application for Modern Living
